My first step on the Arctic Island of Svalbard and it was freezing! The plane arrived close to midnight with the sun shining brightly due to the 24 hour daylight :O. Paul and I were picked up at the airport by UNIS and then driven to our homes for the next 6 months. They were large two story buildings called Barracks made of wood and painted in a number of bright colour, my Barrack is deep red.
There was plenty of time to settle in, meet hundreds of people and make friends, also to discover where everything is including the essentials like the shop and UNIS. The first week of classes where all orientated around safety; like first aid, survival suite (very wet and cold) and of course rifle training the whole time has been extremely busy. It is never too busy to find a nice spot to read my kindle :D.
